Synthesis
Synthesis is an educational game aimed at teaching GCSE Science students about photosynthesis and various other plant-biology. Built for Xbox 360 & PC in XNA, gameplay follows an arcade style where the player must complete Missions in order to save a sick plant. At the end of missions the player is given various quizzes which assesses what they have learned so far.
The story follows 2 Scientists who have discovered that their favourite plant is suffering from the Chestnut Ink Virus (CIV). This means that it cannot perform many of its vital functions including photosynthesis. Therefore they decide to board their ship, the Flora Flyer, and shrink down to microscopic level. They then enter various parts of the plant (Leaves, Roots etc) where they must engage in an array of activities to help the dying plant.
My role in the production of this game was Producer & Programmer, along Chris Pritchard as another Programmer and James Wayland as artist. As a team we worked to produce the tutorial and first mission in approximately 1 week, it can be played with the Xbox 360 Controller or mouse and keyboard. It is in by no means a finished state but all the main functionality is there.
